The New iPad: Why it is Only Half the Story

Apple have announced the next version (but don’t call it iPad 3) of their popular tablet computer. They call it resolutionary and that’s not even a real word, yet somehow it creates the impression they want you to have about the new iPad. But that is only half the story. There is another aspect to this release that makes it a much tougher task to sell a competing device.

It looks like iPad 3 is on the way

“We have something you really have to see. And touch.” Those are the words Apple chose to invite journalists to a media event due to take place on the 7th of March. 

They haven’t said that it is the official launch of iPad 3 but it is widely believed that is what the event is for.

I’m getting sick and tired of all the conformist journalism bashing going on at the moment. It’s mostly coming from people who are in proverbial glass houses, the only problem is, the Leveson enquiry has temporarily left a window open, so most of the stones are getting through.

It’s Software Jim, but not as we Know it

Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and the cloud are everywhere. They definitely form the basis of a lot of geeky conversations, articles and blog posts. Here I want to focus on the SaaS variety, and gather some thoughts on the value of such services. There is also the question of whether SaaS is the way we will all most commonly use software in the future.

One Device Fits All

Apple are bringing the Mac and their mobile devices closer together, and Ubuntu Linux will run on your Android powered smart phone. It means that the distinction between a phone and a computer has reduced even more. Does it mean we’ll just need one device soon?
